MHCAA is acknowledged to be a specialist mental health service for carers. We have contributed significantly at a National level to the development of carer specific services, programs, publications and consultations that reflect the lived experience of carers. As a National body and at a state-level MHCAA member agencies have developed advanced mechanisms for carer directed management including enhanced carer representation, consultation to broader mental health, carer services and Government agencies on carer participation and inclusion.
Volunteer mental health carers have been essential in the history and development of Arafmi and our services still utilise and draw on a broad range of carers providing information and peer support. We have provided leadership in the development of volunteer management strategies and informed the broader development of peer carer supports and services. These skills underpin the delivery of our telephone and web based services.
